Terms of Use
Version 1.2 · Last updated 2 November 2026
In short
This summary helps you find your way. The full terms below are what apply.
- Algernon reads the mail, calendars, notes, files, recordings, contacts and, if you connect them, bank accounts, and uses AI (Anthropic's Claude) to turn them into tasks, decisions, promises, a daily plan and a weekly review.
- Algernon is by invitation only. It costs you nothing: we give accounts AI credit (section 8).
- You set the limits. An email is sent, or a OneDrive file changed, only after you've seen and confirmed that one item. Gmail, Notion and your contacts start at Read: Algernon writes to them only after you switch writing on. Calendar events you ask for or edit, changes in Notion and your contacts once you've allowed writing, and the tasks of projects you share happen without a separate confirmation.
- Algernon never moves money. Bank and broker connections are read-only.
- AI makes mistakes. Check the source before you act on anything that matters.
- Your data stays yours. We don't sell it, don't use it for advertising and don't train AI on it.
- Whoever runs the server can technically read what Algernon stores. We look only when you ask, for security, or when the law requires it.
- You can download all your data, and delete your account, yourself, at any time.
1. Who we are and what these terms cover
1.1 Algernon is the personal assistant at https://assistant.mnta.eu. It is run by Tomáš Adamec, Javorinka 116, 924 01 Galanta, Slovakia ("we", "us").
1.2 These terms are the agreement between you and us about using Algernon. The Privacy Notice (Part 2) explains what happens to your personal data. You accept these terms on the screen Algernon shows you the first time you sign in, and again when they change in a way that matters (section 12). If you don't agree, please don't use Algernon.
2. Who can use Algernon
2.1 You create an account by signing in with a Google account. Only people we invite can create an account.
2.2 You must be at least 18 years old.
2.3 You may use Algernon for your personal life and your own work. If you connect an account that belongs to an employer, a client or another organization, you confirm that you are allowed to. Many organizations forbid connecting work mail, files or bank accounts to outside services, so check first. That decision is yours alone: we don't check whether you may connect an account, and we are not responsible for what you connect or for any breach of your obligations to your employer, client or organization that connecting it causes. If someone makes a claim against us because you connected an account you weren't allowed to, you are responsible for it.
2.4 Your account is for you alone. Don't share it or let anyone else use it. To work with other people, share a project with them (3.5).
2.5 You sign in with Google, so your Algernon account is only as safe as your Google account. Protect it with a strong password and 2-step verification. If you think someone else got into your account, tell us right away at tomi.adamec@gmail.com.
3. What Algernon does
3.1 Once you connect a service, Algernon reads it in the background: Gmail, Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar and Plaud every 15 minutes; Notion, the OneDrive folders you pick for finding tasks and your contacts every 30 minutes; banks and brokers once a day. Other OneDrive files are read only when you or the assistant look one up.
3.2 What Algernon reads is stored on our server and sent to an AI model, Anthropic's Claude, to find tasks, decisions, promises and projects, to plan your day, to answer you, to suggest goals, to estimate the calories in what you ate, to sort bank payments into categories and to write your weekly Mirror review and weekly cleanup. The Privacy Notice lists exactly what is sent and when (P6).
3.3 Your account has two workspaces, Personal and Work, each with its own connections. In Settings → Features you can switch Calendar, Fitness, Decisions, Waiting on, Mirror, Weekly cleanup, Projects, Goals and Contacts off for each workspace. A feature that is off stops its background work; nothing is deleted. Some features open only after you've used Algernon for a while (for example Goals after 30 finished tasks), and some, such as Wealth, the calorie tracker and sharing projects, are available only to some accounts. We decide which features are available, as section 9.4 describes.
3.4 Algernon proposes; you decide. It helps you keep track. It doesn't replace your own judgment.
3.5 Shared projects. You can share a project with other people by their email address. If no Algernon account uses that address yet, the invitation waits until one is created with it. They first see only an invitation (the project's name, description and number of open tasks) and decide whether to accept. Once they accept, they see the project, its tasks and who each task is assigned to, and they can work on its tasks; tasks assigned to them appear in their own plan and assistant. They don't see your mail, notes, sources or anything else in your account. If you close your account, a project you shared stays with the people it is shared with (10.1).
3.6 Review batches. When one email, page or document brings more than two new tasks at once, they wait together for your review instead of going straight to your task list. You can reshape them in words in the review's chat before you accept or reject them.
4. Connections, permissions and what Algernon may change
4.1 For each connection you choose what Algernon may do (Sources, or the Contacts and Wealth pages):
| Service | What Algernon may do |
|---|---|
| Gmail | Read (the default) · Read and write drafts · Read, write and send. Sending stays off unless you choose it and accept the sending disclaimer. Algernon never labels, archives or deletes mail. |
| Google Calendar, Outlook Calendar | Read your main calendar and any others you pick in Settings → Calendars; create events when you ask for one; edit events you made or organise. Invitations from other people stay read-only. |
| Notion | Read (the default) · Read and write. Notion itself asks you which pages Algernon may see. |
| OneDrive | Read (the default) · Read and write, after you accept the file-changes disclaimer, and only in the folders you allow. Folders you mark off limits are never read or changed. |
| Google Contacts, iCloud Contacts | Read (the default) · Read and write: changes you make to a contact in Algernon, and contacts you add or accept there, are written back to Google and iCloud. |
| Banks (through Enable Banking, or Fio directly), Interactive Brokers, Binance | Read only: balances, holdings and booked payments. Nothing can move money, trade or withdraw. A Binance key that can trade, withdraw or transfer is refused. |
| Plaud | Read only. |
4.2 Two things never happen without your confirmation of each single item, on the Waiting for your OK page: sending an email, and creating, changing or deleting a OneDrive file. You first see the whole email, or the file's new text next to its current text, and you can edit it. A deleted file goes to your OneDrive recycle bin.
4.3 Other changes happen without a separate confirmation step, because you asked for them or allowed them when you chose the access level:
- When you tell the assistant to do something (create or change a task, decision, promise, project, goal link, contact or recurring task; log a workout, food or supplement; create or edit a calendar event; write a note into Notion; write a Gmail draft), it does it without asking again. Your command is the confirmation.
- Calendar events you create are real events. Algernon adds no guests to them and emails nobody. When you edit an event that has guests in the edit form, Google or Microsoft emails the guests about the change; the form tells you before you save. When the assistant edits an event, it never emails anyone, and it leaves an Outlook meeting with guests to the form.
- If you set Notion to Read and write, Algernon adds tasks you accept to your chosen tasks page, ticks and unticks to-dos when you finish or reopen tasks, writes decisions and notes into pages, turns lines typed as "[ ]" into real checkboxes, and crosses out lines you reject on a capture page, such as your Siri page. Text Algernon adds is marked "— Algernon" with the date and time. If you want nothing changed in Notion, leave it at Read.
- If you set contacts to Read and write, changes you make to a contact in Algernon, and people you accept from Algernon's proposals, are written to Google Contacts and iCloud. If you want nothing changed there, leave them at Read.
- When you make a decision in Algernon, it first shows you the follow-through it plans (a note, an email draft, a task) and carries it out only when you confirm.
- In a project you share, the people you shared it with can add, change, finish and reassign its tasks.
4.4 You are responsible for what you confirm, send or ask Algernon to do. Read drafts, events, notes and contact changes before you rely on them. You are the sender of every email that goes out from your account.
4.5 Disconnecting a service deletes Algernon's access keys for it right away and stops Algernon reading it. For Google, Notion (connected with the Connect button), Plaud (where Plaud allows it) and Enable Banking, Algernon also withdraws its access at the service. For Microsoft, iCloud, Fio, Interactive Brokers, Binance and a pasted Notion key, Algernon only deletes its copy of the key: the access itself stays active at the service until you remove Algernon (or the key or app password you created for it) in that service's own settings. What Algernon has already read stays in Algernon until you delete it (Sources → What has been read, the Fitness page, or Wealth → Delete all Wealth data) or close your account.
4.6 Bank access lasts as long as you approved it at your bank, at most 180 days. Algernon tells you when to approve it again.
4.7 Each connected service's own terms still apply to your use of it, including those of Enable Banking (Enable Banking Oy, Finland), which connects your banks. Algernon is not affiliated with or endorsed by Google, Microsoft, Apple, Notion, Plaud, Enable Banking, your bank, Fio, Interactive Brokers, Binance or Anthropic.
5. AI: what to expect
5.1 The tasks, decisions, promises, plans, drafts, answers, goal suggestions, calorie estimates, payment categories and reviews in Algernon are written by AI, and AI makes mistakes. It can misread who promised what to whom, get dates or numbers wrong, mix people up, miss something important, or state something that isn't true.
5.2 Each task, decision and promise links to the passage it came from. Open it and check before you act on anything that matters.
5.3 Don't rely on Algernon as your only record of deadlines, of legal or financial obligations, or of anything where a miss could cause harm.
5.4 Algernon doesn't give legal, financial, tax, investment, medical, nutritional, psychological or employment advice. The weekly Mirror is an automated and deliberately blunt review of how you worked. It is an opinion generated from your own words, not a judgment of you as a person, and we never share it, or anything else in your account, with your employer or anyone else. You can switch it off in Settings → Features.
5.5 The Fitness features and the calorie tracker only show your own data back to you; calories and protein are estimates. They are not medical advice, and Algernon is not a medical device.
5.6 Wealth shows your own figures and simple projections from the numbers you enter or connect. Bank and market data can be late, incomplete or wrong, and the spending review is an estimate. Wealth is not investment advice, and its plan is not a promise of any result.
6. Your responsibilities
When you use Algernon, you agree:
6.1 to connect only accounts that are yours or that you are allowed to connect;
6.2 that you have the right to let Algernon process what is in them, including other people's information in your mail, calendars, notes, recordings, contacts and bank payments (see the Privacy Notice, P8);
6.3 to record conversations only where the law allows it and the people you record agree, if you connect Plaud or another recorder;
6.4 not to use Algernon to monitor, evaluate or make decisions about other people, such as employees or job applicants. It is built for your own work, the Mirror is for reflecting on yourself, and shared projects are for working together, not for watching each other;
6.5 to keep out of Algernon anything you may not share with an outside AI service, such as information covered by professional secrecy or a confidentiality agreement. You can leave Notion pages unshared and mark OneDrive folders off limits;
6.6 to share a project only with people who may see what is in it;
6.7 not to use Algernon for anything unlawful, to spam or harass anyone, or for anything that Anthropic's Usage Policy forbids;
6.8 not to try to get into other people's accounts, test or get around Algernon's security, overload it, or copy, resell or reverse-engineer it.
7. Your content
7.1 Your content stays yours: what Algernon reads from your services, what you type or share into it, and what it creates for you.
7.2 You allow us to store and process your content only to run Algernon for you, as these terms and the Privacy Notice describe. One exception: when you put a shop into a spending category yourself, Algernon may count that choice, without your name, toward a shared list of which category a shop belongs in, and that list sorts other users' payments too. Payments to people and account numbers are never counted, and you can turn this off in Wealth settings (Privacy Notice P4 and P7). This permission ends when the content is deleted. In a project you share, you also allow the people you shared it with to see and work on its tasks, and the project stays with them if you leave (10.1).
7.3 We don't sell your content, don't use it for advertising and don't use it to train AI models. Under its terms, our AI provider doesn't train its models on it either.
7.4 Algernon's software, design and name belong to us. You may use them only to use Algernon.
8. AI credit
8.1 Algernon is free for you to use. AI costs us money, so each account gets AI credit from us, for example with its invitation. Credit that comes with an invitation is added to your account the first time you sign in. Settings shows how much you've used.
8.2 When your credit is used up, Algernon keeps reading and collecting new items, but its AI work (3.2) pauses until we add more.
8.3 To protect Algernon from runaway costs, there is also a monthly AI limit for all accounts together. If it is ever reached, AI work pauses for everyone until we raise it or the month ends.
8.4 AI credit has no cash value, can't be transferred or exchanged, and we may change how much we give.
9. Availability, changes and backups
9.1 Algernon runs on a single server. We work to keep it running, but we can't promise that it will always be available, fast or free of errors. Updates cause short interruptions.
9.2 Algernon depends on Google, Microsoft, Apple, Notion, Plaud, Enable Banking and the banks behind it, Fio, Interactive Brokers, Binance, our market-data providers and Anthropic. If they change or end their services, or our access to them, the matching features may stop working.
9.3 We copy the database every day and keep the copies for 14 days, and back up the whole server once a month, keeping the last 3 months. The originals of what Algernon reads stay in the services you connected, but what exists only in Algernon (tasks, decisions, goals, logged food and supplements, Wealth figures you typed, what you wrote) could be lost in a serious failure. You can download a copy at any time (Settings → Your data).
9.4 We may change, add or remove features, and decide which features are available to which accounts. If a change takes away something important to you, we'll tell you in advance where we can.
10. Ending
10.1 You can stop using Algernon at any time. To close your account, use Settings → Your data → Delete account: it shows you what will be deleted, and asks you to type your email address to confirm. It can't be undone, so download your data first if you want a copy. A project you shared with people who accepted stays with them: it and its tasks move to the person who accepted first, and what in it was only yours (your decisions, the links to your sources, goals and files) is deleted. In other people's projects, your tasks become unassigned and stay with the project.
10.2 We may suspend or close your account if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if it's needed to protect you, other people or Algernon, or if the law requires it. We'll tell you why, unless the law or security reasons prevent it.
10.3 We may stop running Algernon, for everyone or for your account, with at least 30 days' notice. Before your data is deleted, you can download a copy.
10.4 Sections 4.4, 7, 11 and 13 continue to apply after your account is closed.
11. Liability
11.1 Algernon is provided free of charge, as it is and as it is available, without any promise or warranty. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind that comes from using Algernon or from not being able to use it. That includes what the AI wrote and what you did based on it, emails you send, events, notes, contact and file changes made at your request or with your confirmation, what the people you share a project with do, outages and errors of Algernon, of the connected services or of the AI provider, lost or damaged data, and indirect loss such as lost profit or opportunities.
11.2 Some liability can't be excluded by law, such as for intent or gross negligence, or for death or personal injury. Nothing in these terms excludes it, and if you use Algernon as a consumer, your mandatory consumer rights stay as they are.
12. Changes to these terms
12.1 We may update these terms, for example when Algernon or the law changes. We'll tell you about changes that affect you at least 30 days before they apply, in Algernon or by email, and Algernon asks you to accept the new version. If you don't agree, you can close your account before then.
12.2 The date and version at the top show when these terms last changed. Algernon records which version you accepted and when. Earlier versions are available on request.
13. Law and disputes
13.1 These terms are governed by the law of the Slovak Republic. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, you keep the protection of that country's mandatory laws.
13.2 If something goes wrong, please contact us first. Most problems are quicker to solve by talking.
13.3 If you use Algernon as a consumer, you can take a dispute to the courts where you live or to the courts of the Slovak Republic, and we can take one only to the courts where you live. Otherwise, disputes go to the courts of the Slovak Republic.
13.4 If you use Algernon as a consumer and we can't settle a complaint together, you can turn to an out-of-court dispute resolution body: in Slovakia, the Slovak Trade Inspection (Slovenská obchodná inšpekcia, www.soi.sk).
13.5 If a court finds part of these terms invalid, the rest still applies.
13.6 These terms are also available in Slovak and Croatian. All versions have the same meaning; if they differ, the English version applies.
